Year of the Dolphin in Kenya

The Year of the Dolphin campaign is already in full swing even before its official start on 1.1.2007. For instance, on 25.11.2006 life was breathed into the first initiatives in the TUI destination of Kenya. In the coastal village of Shimoni an opening ceremony was held for the Year of the Dolphin.
The celebrations were attended by TUI Service Kenya and the TUI incoming agency Pollmans Tours & Safaris and were organised in cooperation with Charlies Claw Wasini Island and numerous other local and international organisations such as KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service), World Vision and the East African Wildlife Society.
Armagan Günaydin, TUI destination manager in Kenya, commented: "The Year of the Dolphin 2007 will attract the environmental focus once again to the coast of Kenya and will make sure that many environmental organisations, as well as local fishermen and the tourism industry work hand in hand to protect the natural beauty of Kenya’s coastline so that it is secure for future generations to enjoy." During the celebration the topic of dolphins and marine protection was picked up by school classes and others and playfully carried into effect. Schoolchildren presented the subjects in short stories to their classmates and other schoolchildren. The opening ceremony was also broadcast nationwide in the evening news by two local TV stations.
