YoD educational activities unfold in Kenyan schools
In a move to involve children and local communities in the Year of the Dolphin, the YoD partners in Kenya, TUI Kenya and Pollmans Tours & Safaris organized a YoD logo drawing competition at Makwiro, Shimoni and Wasini Primary Schools.
Rashid Hemed from Wasini Primary School emerged as the winner. Once a sponsor will be identified, his artwork will be printed on T- Shirts along with the official YoD logo and displayed at the YoD event in Mombasa 16 June 2007.
A football competition between the three schools followed with the finalists Shimoni and Makwiro battling it out for the top prize. On the occasion of the YoD event in Mombasa, the East African Wildlife Society will donate an award to Shimoni Primary School, as the winner of the football competition. As a reward, TUI and Pollmans Tours & Safaris arranged for a visit and recreational activities for the 24 participating students of both Makwiro and Shimoni Primary School. They were invited to spend a day out at the Kisite Marine Park on a sailing boat, where they snorkeled and had a chance to see dolphins.
Armagan Günaydin (TUI Resident Manager Kenya) and Abdulaziz Abdalla (Pollmans Tours & Safaris) were official representatives at the event.
