BICREF - The Biological Conservation Research Foundation (Malta)


In2007, BICREF has continued topromote Conservation and strive to improve our Knowledge on marine mammals.

BICREFhas delivered both Radio and Television interviews; it has produced news clipsand features to promote local cetaceans’ needs; organized seminars for thepublic free of charge; produced three posters for secondary schools to useand stimulate discussion with future generations toward a better appreciationof dolphins and other marine organisms. 

BICREFis still very active in research assistance, fund raising for conservationresearch and increasing awareness for cetacean conservation in an area of theMediterranean.
BICREFalso assisted in the Sperm Whale survey by IFAW in the Mediterranean by sendingone of its members to collaborate in the research efforts.

Onthe 4th of October BICREF collaborated with the Education Departmentin celebrating the International Day for Animal Awareness by supplying BICREFposters and BICREF Eco Malta Documentaries to all the participatingschools.  The Education Dept.’spublication of an educational booklet for all schools included a page dedicatedto BICREF’s conservation efforts. Greater efforts and collaboration with the education department has thusbeen established for improved local awareness on cetacean and marinebiodiversity issues.
BICREFis also currently working on a new nature documentary, which will promotecetacean conservation and importance in this region.

BICREFlooks forward to receive the opportunity to work more closely with localenvironmental authorities in the field of marine conservation, with particularemphasis on marine biodiversity and vulnerable species, as are cetaceans.
