BICREF - The Biological Conservation Research Foundation (Malta)
In
2007, BICREF has continued to
promote Conservation and strive to improve our Knowledge on marine mammals.
BICREF
has delivered both Radio and Television interviews; it has produced news clips
and features to promote local cetaceans’ needs; organized seminars for the
public free of charge; produced three posters for secondary schools to use
and stimulate discussion with future generations toward a better appreciation
of dolphins and other marine organisms.
BICREF
is still very active in research assistance, fund raising for conservation
research and increasing awareness for cetacean conservation in an area of the
Mediterranean.
BICREF
also assisted in the Sperm Whale survey by IFAW in the Mediterranean by sending
one of its members to collaborate in the research efforts.
On
the 4th of October BICREF collaborated with the Education Department
in celebrating the International Day for Animal Awareness by supplying BICREF
posters and BICREF Eco Malta Documentaries to all the participating
schools. The Education Dept.’s
publication of an educational booklet for all schools included a page dedicated
to BICREF’s conservation efforts.
Greater efforts and collaboration with the education department has thus
been established for improved local awareness on cetacean and marine
biodiversity issues.
BICREF
is also currently working on a new nature documentary, which will promote
cetacean conservation and importance in this region.
BICREF
looks forward to receive the opportunity to work more closely with local
environmental authorities in the field of marine conservation, with particular
emphasis on marine biodiversity and vulnerable species, as are cetaceans.
