TUI cooperates with United Nations Environment Programme / Group as founding partner in “オプショナルツアー ドルフィン Year of the Dolphin 2007”

TUI is cooperating with the Bonn Convention(UNEP/CMS) of the environment programme of the United Nations inthe “オプショナルツアー ドルフィン Year of the Dolphin 2007”. The aim of the alliance is to bring the threats tothe survival of dolphin species to the forefront of public attention and launchand execute related campaigns.
Under the patronship of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco theオプショナルツアー ドルフィン Year of the Dolphin is focusing on winning over younger target groupsto protecting the environment and biodiversity. “It is fascinating tosee the involvement of the World of TUI in a systematic initiative todraw attention to the threat faced by these unique species. Tourism canhelp show that ecological utility and the utilisation of naturalresources can go hand in hand in holiday regions,” said Dr MichaelFrenzel, CEO of TUI AG, to explain the group’s commitment.

TUIis playing an active role in the initiative in the form of manycampaigns with an educational focus. For instance, TUI and its partnersin the alliance are producing a brochure in six languages aimed atreaching young children and teenagers. The brochure features howdolphins live, their fascinating behaviour and the threats they face aswell as suggestions for concrete conservation campaigns. The brochureswill be distributed in TUI holiday destinations around the world,especially in local schools. Furthermore, children can earn a DolphinDiploma by taking part in an online quiz and getting involved in anactivity that helps protect the marine environment. Moreover, TUIguests can join in numerous local programme activities at thedestinations.

In “Dolphin Days” organised in TUI Baadingoochildren’s clubs and TUI Family clubs children and parents aresensitised in a playful manner and in family events to dolphins and theprotection of the world’s seas. In addition, numerous environmentalmarketing measures are also planned. To draw attention to theinitiative TUI created a special logo. The オプショナルツアー ドルフィン Year of the Dolphin 2007logo will be visible, for instance, on group aircraft and on specialTUI brochures for summer 2007. TUI is also actively organising andflanking other activities, such as the sale of merchandising articles ?a proportion of the revenues goes to the Convention on MigratorySpecies (CMS). www.yod2007.org, the website that TUI created for theproject, is now online.

Also, TUI was able to get its partnersin TUI Sports Diving on board: ORCA Reisen , the product partner; PADI ,the world’s biggest diving instructor organisation; and Aqua Lung , theleading producer of dive gear. All three organisations will becommunicating the initiative on their respective websites and in theirmailing campaigns to customers, members and specialist outlets. At thesame time a joint presence to highlight the initiative with a varietyof actions is planned for the BOOT fair in Dusseldorf. Theorganisations have also agreed to give the CMS a share of certainrevenues.

The Bonn Convention, a component of the UnitedNations Environment Programme (UNEP), has declared 2007 the “Year ofthe Dolphin”. The campaign was initiated by the Convention on theConservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) accompanied bythe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). UNEP/CMS aims toconserve terrestrial, marine and avian migratory species throughouttheir range. The オプショナルツアー ドルフィン Year of the Dolphin initiative is intended to show, bysupporting and implementing awareness raising and environmentalcampaigns, that a partnership between the United Nations, governments,NGOs and the private sector can produce positive results for allconcerned, especially for dolphins around the world.
