ACCOBAMS presents Operation MIMO, a homage to Prince Rainier III


A natural-size dolphin-shaped statue will be submerged by H.R.H. Prince Albert II in the Principality of Monaco’s Larvotto Natural Reserve
Monaco/Bonn, 15 September - In the frame of its Tenth Anniversary, ACCOBAMS (Agreement on theConservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea andContiguous Atlantic Area) renews its meetings with the general publicand launches Operation MIMO, event under the presidency of H.R.H.Prince Albert II.

17th September at 5.30pm, a natural-sizeddolphin-shaped statue, MIMO, will be submerged in the Principality ofMonaco’s Larvotto Natural Reserve. H.R.H. Prince Albert II will divetogether with a team of professional divers and several Monegasquepersonalities committed to the protection of Marine Biodiversity.
Thisevent will make the site an ideal spot for sea-enthusiasts to dive,celebrating ACCOBAMS Tenth Anniversary in the meantime. MIMO will bethe new Ambassador of the species protected by the Agreement,particularly of common dolphin, a species facing extinction accordingto the scientific community.

It is not coincidence that thestatue is dedicated to the late memory of Prince Rainier III for thecommitment he devoted to the birth of ACCOBAMS, the pursue of its goalsand the housing of the Secretariat in the Principality of Monaco.
LarvottoNatural Reserve, symbolising the Principality’s devotion to theconservation of the marine environment, was chosen as the location forthe statue.

A cocktail dinner at the “Note Bleue” restaurantwill follow the diving operations: representatives from the 20Countries Party to ACCOBAMS, the heads of UNEP, CMS and MonegasqueGovernment are expected to attend the event. Films, a dance performanceoffered by Centre Choregraphique Celine Toquet , a bingo game and -ofcourse- live music will enhance the evening. T-shirts made by AMAPEI (aMonegasque association for people suffering from down syndrome) will bealso sold to finance whale-watching trips for disabled people.
